Over the summer, my husband and I decided to put in a privacy fence and with that, we had to remove trees and shrubs. Once everything was out and the fence was put in, we were left with a pretty barren looking backyard. Since it is fall and cooler outside, my goal is to get out in the back and work on adding some beds up against the fence. This will make it more attractive, and bring back some wild life that we may have lost after the trees were removed.
In addition to those beds, I also wanted to add a Vegetable Garden. This a project that I am looking forward to working on with my kids. They get so excited when we plant something and it yields fruit. However since I am limited on space, and I have to be careful not to destroy the sprinkler system, the beds need to be raised.
Thanks to Miracle-Gro and The Gardenieres, I got some inspiration on how to put in my Vegetable Garden. Check out the following video of Gardeniere Mary Katherine Greene, who demonstrates how to create a Vegetable Garden with some soil, lumber, and limited space.
So to summarize, this is what I will need to get started:
- 4 pieces of 2×4 Lumber to create the desired size of my bed
- Miracle-Gro Garden Soil
- Stakes
- Chicken Wire for an enclosure fence
- Vegetables I want for the bed
- Miracle-Gro Liquafeed

I am so excited to get working on this project. I am hoping next summer, I will have a garden full of vegetables.
Wish me luck!
